The Starter Email

And so it begins. Below is the email I sent out to hand picked 18 of my closest friends to start my new venture. I tried to pick friends out from multiple groups. And if these friends bring new friends, the variety at my dinners will create exciting and new conversations as well as spread my name through different channels:

Happy 2011 everyone!!

As you may or may not know, in 2010 I began to work part-time for a caterer on weeknights and weekends. This has been my outlet for my passion for cooking and serving, and is in the field that I see myself in the future.

The owner of the catering business has encouraged me to start a venture on my own, but I definitely need some more practice and a build up of menus. And that is where you all come in:

What: Sunday Evening Dinners with Rena
When: Every Other Sunday at 7pm – come to as many or as little as you like

Every other Thursday I will send out a menu for Sunday night dinner via a link to my blog (Table for Ten) - from appetizer to dessert. A simple email “yes” or “no” response by Friday evening will be ample (no response will = “no” too)

Who: You and any friends you want to bring along- just let me know when you RSVP. And this can be a great way to make new friends too. (Please note that there will be a limit of 10 people per dinner due to my kitchen and apartment capacity)

I really appreciate having you all support me in my endeavor!
Cheers,
Ren

I put in an initial investment in my hobby by purchasing the following:

Long Table – A community dinner wouldn’t be a community dinner without one (ok this was free from parents, consider it a rental)
Tablecloths - Because I’m classy like that and it’s spill-proof ($40)
Folding Chairs- Obvious ($130)
White Square Plates and Matching Bowls- These will make a clean, elegant and modern presentation regardless of the dish I serve ($90)

All of these items are pretty permanent and can be used in the future, so I am considering this a good start to my hobby.

Coming up next is the first menu!
